The Ashland Area Economic Development Committee (AAEDC) Chair, Don Tardie, is pleased to announce the Town of Ashland is being awarded a Rural Business Development Grant (USDA) to fund the committee’s effort to improve economic development in the Route 11 corridor, from Oxbow to Portage Lake, ME. The $21,000 grant consists of local area employer/municipal match of $5,250 and USDA funds of $15,750.
The AAEDC will utilize the grant to kickstart efforts to develop strategic plans, actions, and staffing to support future business growth in the Machias River Industrial Park complex, and hire an instructor to provide the WorkReady Credential course, a Workforce Development initiative, through Ashland Adult Education. A fall 2017 and spring 2018 course is anticipated to be scheduled. The Press Release gives details for the fall course starting on November 6.
The AAEDC would like to thank all the local area organizations who pledged funds that will be used to match the federal funding provided in the grant.
