The Ashland Area Economic Development Committee is pleased to announce the offering of the WorkReady Credential Course through the Ashland Adult Education Program commencing February 26, 2018.
The WorkReady Credential is a 60-hour training program approved by Maine’s Department of Education that addresses the “soft skills” needed to be successful in the workplace. Trainees will learn how to communicate effectively, identify personal motivation for employment as well as develop a plan for employment. Trainees will demonstrate effectiveness in working with other people, understand the basic principles of getting and keeping a job, interpret and understand work-related safety issues, and gain an understanding of wages, benefits, taxes, and employee organizations. Trainees will produce a well-designed resume and cover letter as well as understand how to conduct themselves in an interview.
This curriculum targets individuals who are seeking employment, either for the first time or are currently unemployed. It is also beneficial in assisting those currently in the workforce in entry-level positions to enhance skills necessary to retain their job and possibly provide a pathway for advancement within their current place of employment. The curriculum is based on seven standards from the Comprehensive Student Assessment System (CASAS) that were identified as critical “soft skills” for workplace success.
Course participants will also be given the unique opportunity to earn two additional workplace credentials: NorthStar Digital Literacy and WelcomeME.
- NorthStar Digital Literacy is a nationally recognized certificate in basic computer skills. Successful completion of this credential assures understanding of Basic Computer Use, Internet Use, Windows 7, Mac OS X, Using Email, Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Information Literacy.
- WelcomeME is a web-based customer service certification program designed to support Maine’s tourism industry. This training, created by the University of Maine System and used by the Maine Woods Consortium, helps to create superior customer experiences.
